Board of Education Self-Analysis
February 15, 2006
The Missouri Association of Rural Education supports member school districts by offering training to new school board members and advising boards of education about their responsibilities as members.
MARE has developed a board of education self-analysis exercise that outlines the characteristics of effective boardsmanship. It involves a board members confidential feedback regarding their individual views on the practices and procedures that makes them an effective member and the practices of their fellow board members.
The basic premise for understanding each individuals responsibilities as board members lies in the following beliefs:
-
I initiate and establish policy
-
I am responsible for the hiring, disciplining, terminating and promoting of personnel
-
I am charges with overseeing and approval of the district's finances
-
I interpret the values of the community in the decision making process
If your board of education would like a confidential board evaluation and the follow up discussion about the findings, please contact MARE Executive Director, 201 South Holden Street, Suite 202, Warrensburg, Missouri 64093, phone (660) 747 8050
